Exceptionally High Green Strength Products

This family of high-purity, low apparent density copper powders is produced by a non-electrolytic oxidation-reduction process.

High Green Strength (HGS) Copper Powders are designed primarily for use in sintered copper friction materials as the metal matrix component that helps bond the friction additives, and in carbon brush applications as the conductive matrix material that bonds the graphite in place.

Powder particles are irregular in shape and provide exceptionally high green strength.

Grade 180RLX-HGS is designed for use in formulations where the percentage of additives is low or in applications requiring a medium-high green strength. It may also be used in carbon brush applications where low apparent density and medium-high green strength characteristics are beneficial to replace electrolytic copper powders. Grade 180RLX-HGS is Resistox treated to resist oxidation during storage or use. However, because of its high surface area, a lowering of green strength with age will be experienced.

Grades 200RLX-HGS and 285RLX-HGS are intended for use as ingredients in sintered metallic friction materials where exceptionally high green strength matrix copper powder is required. These grades are finer than the 180RLX-HGS grade, with much lower apparent densities and correspondingly higher green strengths. These grades are also Resistox treated to resist oxidation during storage or use. However, because these powders are extremely fine, the powder should be used as soon as practical as green strength will decline with age.

Grade 400RLX-SGS  is used as the copper matrix in sintered metallic friction materials where a fine, low apparent density copper powder having high green strength is required to optimize other friction additives for maximum performance. It may also be used in carbon brush applications where the low apparent density and high green strength characteristics are beneficial to replace electrolytic copper powders. Powder particles are very irregular in shape and provide excellent green strength. Grade 400RLX-SGS is Resistox treated to resist oxidation during storage and use. However, because of its high surface area, a lowering of green strength with age will be experienced.
